மணிமேகலை குறிப்பிடும் மனநோய்த் தத்துவமும் தற்காலக் கொள்கையும் - ஓர் ஒப்புநோக்கு (A Comparative between Evidenced Psychiatric Disorder in Manimegalai Literature and Contemporary Psychiatry)

Manimegalai is one of the Five Great Epics of the Tamil Literature. It is considered as a package of poem in 30 cantos containing many ideal and moral thoughts. A widespread psychological ideas are also scattered in Manimegalai. The aim of this article is to explore out a Psychiatric thought that is compacted in this epic, in the chapter ‘Malarvanam Pukka Kaathai’. On a complete literary search, one of the poem in ‘Malarvanam Pukka Kaathai’ has been found to deal with the appearance and activities of an insane person. Further, it was compared with modern psychiatric illnesses. On a thorough comparison, it was concluded that the poem has depicted a mentally ill person suffering from ‘Disorganized Schizophrenia’, a subtype of Schizophrenia which is a prevailing mental disorder affecting 1.5 million people around the world every year. This article could be a keystone to future literary reviews that may remain a lead to current psychiatric researches.

மணிமேகலை, தமிழ் இலக்கியங்களில் தொன்மை வாய்ந்த பழம்பெருங் காப்பியங்களுள் ஒன்றாகத் திகழ்கிறது. பல அறக் கருத்துக்களை உள்ளடக்கிய இக்காப்பியத்தில் பல மனவியல் கருத்துக்களும் உள்ளடங்கியுள்ளன. அவற்றுள் ஒன்றை நவீன கொள்கை ஒன்றோடு ஒப்புநோக்குவதே இக்கட்டுரையின் நோக்கம் ஆகும். மணிமேகலையில் மலர்வனம் புக்க காதையில் சாத்தனார் மனநோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட ஒருவரை பற்றி முழுவதுமாக விவரிக்கிறார். அவர் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ள மனநோயாளியின் தோற்றம், செய்கைகள் யாவும் நவீன மருத்துவம் குறிப்பிடும் Disorganised Schizophrenia என்ற நோயுடன் துல்லியமாக ஒத்து போவதை காண முடிகிறது. உலக சுகாதார அமைப்பின் ஆய்வறிக்கை படி ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் உலகில் ஏறத்தாழ மக்கள் தொகையில் 1.5 மில்லியன் மக்கள் மனநோயால் பாதிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். இவ்வகை மனச்சிதைவு நோய் சங்க காலத்திலேயே இலக்கியங்களில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளதை சுட்டி காட்டுவதே இக்கட்டுரையின் நோக்கம். இது போன்ற இலக்கிய ஆய்வுகள் பிற்காலத்தில் நவீன மனநோய் ஆராய்ச்சிக்கு வித்திடும் என்பது திண்ணம்.
